I would highly reccomend this to anyone who wants a comfortable/unintimidating sci fi novel with interesting ideas, wholesome characters, accessible language, steady pacing, and interpersonal relationships. This book was just what I needed during a stressful period. Luckily, it appears that this book is a part of a series, so I'm glad to know that I'll be able to 'go' on another adventure with these sweet space characters again (if I can get my hands on a copy of the next book!) Chef, the doctor and cook Ohan, the navigator (a Sianat Pair, therefore plural pronouns are used) the two techs, Kizzy Shao and. Presumably it refers to one standard year, but it might well be different from our year since it's unlikely that the planet of the founding members of the GC happened to have. Onboard, she meets the crew: Ashby Santoso, the captain Sissix, the pilot Dr. Exactly how long a 'standard' is isn't explained, but from context a standard is clearly MUCH longer than a tenday, so I read it as roughly equivalent to one of our years. I feel a bit sad too, since I feel quite connected to the characters now and I did not want the book to end (I started flipping pages really slowly at the end haha). The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet opens with the arrival of Rosemary Harper to the Wayfarer as it makes its way to its next job. I’m about to dive into writing the fourth book, so there’s more to come.

It was originally self-published, with the help of a Kickstarter campaign, and was subsequently picked up by Hodder & Stoughton. I really enjoyed how the book focused on interpersonal relationships between all of the different characters, and I loved the little bits of humour and pacing of the story. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is the first book in the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers. I feel really warm inside after reading this novel. I just finished reading this very comforting science fiction book.
